How This Test Works
What It Measures
Simultaneously tracks two independent streams of information: auditory tones and visual grid positions. You must indicate when either the current tone or current position matches what appeared N steps earlier.
How Scoring Works
Score combines accuracy on both auditory and visual streams. Higher N values indicate stronger working memory capacity. The dual-task nature taxes the central executive system.
What Affects Your Results
Your working memory capacity, ability to divide attention between modalities, practice with N-back tasks, and current cognitive fatigue all affect your score.
